2011 Annual Public Safety Survey: Diving Deeper into Americans' Greatest Public Safety Concerns

In a continued effort to uncover Americans' chief concerns and most likely behaviors in emergencies, we have conducted another survey that dives deeper into public safety concerns. This study of 2,153 adults across the United States shows one-third (34 percent) of Americans feel that public safety is a not a priority in their community. When asked to consider today's unexpected emergency risks-including natural disasters, terrorism and health pandemics-almost four out of 10 believe their city or town is slightly unprepared or not at all prepared in the event of an emergency.

This survey further validates last year's research and reminds individuals and families what they can do on their own to be better prepared for emergency situations. If they are familiar with their community's emergency procedures, and have some emergency plans of their own, they are more likely to be safe during a disaster.
